The North Gate
The Old North Gate was situated at the bottom of Northgate Street (traditionally called The Dark Lane or ‘the Darklin’). It arched across the road from the ROYAL GEORGE but was demolished in around 1824 to widen the road.

If you wish to end the Trail here, you can turn left and continue up the hill to Point 2. Turn left for the Town Hall or right to the Castle.

To continue, cross the road at the zebra crossing to the MILL BRIDGE.
