The Long Entry

On the site of the present car park there was, until the 1950’s, a narrow alleyway with a terrace of tiny cottages, originally almshouses, on either side. At the far end was the site of the original postern gate, the small pedestrian gate in the town walls to let in travellers after the three main gates were shut for the night.
